1.	Ask around and make phone calls - find a venue that ideally is not far from a pond, stream, lake or the ocean.	Book a venue	1 hours
2.	Contact me and I will organize your dragonfly expert to lead the walk!	Dragonfly walk	30 minutes
3.	Contact local organizations, businesses/groups who can demonstrate approaches that lower emissions and preserve the environment: examples here	Invite local educational groups or organizations to your event	2 hours
4.	Contact local water quality volunteer groups/organizations example: The Surfrider Foundation	Invite water quality testing leaders to demonstrate and educate	30 minutes
5.	Contact/invite local organic cafe/market	Invite a sustainable food vendor/refreshments donation	30 minutes
6	Research and contact a speaker to talk about a Dragonfly Day topic	Invite a positive and interesting speaker/politician/expert to talk about climate adaption/dragonflies/ reducing emissions etc	1 hour
7	2 WEEKS BEFORE EVENT: Write a press release (contact me if needed) to talk about what is Dragonfly Day and why it is important.	Get some local press interested and possibly free advertising space	1 hour
8	Create flyer for event, post on social networks and emails or contact me with details for a PDF flyer	Let people know where your Dragonfly Day event is!	1.5 hours

Take 8 hours (one day) over a few months and organize a DD event that is educational and fun..
​Here is an example of a schedule:

• Organize a dragonfly walk (savoring our wildlife & environment generates the will to save it)
• Increase awareness on chemical-free lawns, farms and gardens
• Organize rain-garden projects to protect waterways and sensitive areas from storm water run-off
• Invite an environmental organization to run a water quality testing workshop
• Plant trees and learn about how tree-lined roads absorb 30% of pollution

Our Dragonfly Day event schedule in 2018 on the East End of Long Island:

​CMEE (Childrens Museum of the East End): 10-12:00pm
10:00-12:00 Dragonfly art show! Local 5th Graders display their dragonfly art-work. 
10:00-12:00 Tabling: Sierra Club Long Island, Peconac Trust, Peconic Estuary Project, Accabonac Protection Committee, Surfrider Foundation.
10:00-12:00 Long Island dragonfly dark room! Slide show with hundreds of beautiful dragonflies; some are extinct/disappeared (Jean Held).
10:30-11:30 Build rain-gardens at CMEE with Long Island Native Plant Initiative. 
11:30-12:00 Refreshments. 
 
SOFO (South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center):12-2:00pm
12:00-12:15 Fred Thiele will present the proclamation NYS Dragonfly Day 2018. 
12:15-12:35 Frank Quevedo will talk on predators and climate adaption.
12:35-12:50 The Perfect Earth Project: alternatives to chemical use on lawns, compost tea, the soil biome and water quality. 
12:50-01:30 Dragonfly walk with an Odonata expert!
